Lost Coin Class Notes May 10, 2011 Inner Considering You are not inner considering when you are doing something someone else wants or doing something for someone else, if it's not accompanied by negative emotion. For example: You have a Zen teacher and you trust that person, you like them, therefore when they suggest you do something, you do it out of affection of sharing of ideals. You feel positive about it. Another example: Zen teacher who may punish you so you do it out of guilt---that's inner considering. When your family asks you to Christmas dinner and you hate it but still you go, that also inner considering. Inner considering is when some external force is taking over your interior in a negative way and you're complying in a negative way. Inner considering is mechanical. Student question: "This sounds like self coersion?" More like introjection. Dogs interject; cats do not. Cat's don't inner consider, dogs do. Doen feels that this is a good subject for us. We are to sit for awhile as a group and then come up with 2 things that are mechanical inner considerations. Next week we will talk about what to do with it. When we sit we realize we don't decide what to think. Inner considering is a way of thought that happens all by itself. Drop habitual patterns and beliefs. Elena brought up that our 30 day projects are up. Doen explained that part of this exercise was for us to understand why and how we fail and to gain insight. Happy 1st birthday Sage!
